Krabi

So i was in a beach "santuary" for a week...
I had to come back... *sigh*

This trip was reminise of trip that I took when I was younger where my maternal extended family would travel in a 4 or five car entourage to malacca or kuantan for a week. For this trip however our mode of transport was two chartered minivans.

My aunt made the bookings for the accomodations.. The place was really cool. Though it was not near the beach town of Au Nang, that was really a blessing in disguise. Our rooms were all along the same corridor and all adjacent balconys had a view of the small lake and the resort pools framed by the other rooms and the limestone rock formations the area is so famous for.

On the first night my brother thought it would be adventurous to order fried WASP for dinner... that went bad.
For the next couple of nights we alternated between this and another resturant for dinner.

The highlight of the second day is our elephant track.. 19 family members on 7 elephants trekking through forest and an old rubber plantation. One gets a birds eye view of the forest as well a glimpse into the characters of each of the elephants.

Monday was all about snorkelling!!! I love the waves crashing against the boat the sun beating down. Well the reefs have been damages due to the tsunami but you can tell that its starting to show signs that it is returning to its hey day.

The following day we went Kayaking everyone, even my grandma was in on it. We kayaked through the mangroves my cousin had a monkey jump on her. In a lagoon in the middle of the swamp we ended up having a food fight with watermelon peels and spitting water melon seeds. By the end of the expedition we could confidently manuvoeur in the water.

Wednesday was a relaxing day after all that action we went early to the emerald pool. When we got there it was void of people, A private pool for us at the end of a clearing. The water was fresh, clear and all to ourselves. Totally amazing! But that wasn't the case for long. I was pleasantly surprised by our next stop the hot springs. I'll see if I can post a pic!

Thursday - Rock-climbing would have to be my highlight. Mainly because this wasn't in the original itinerary but I pushed for us to all go. Just before we left I climbed this really wicked wall. It was at least 40 metres or natural rock face. In order to get all the way to the top I had a little help from this nice man I affectionate call my "hillside guru" that gave me tips on where the grips were. He was literary sitting three-quarter way up the wall he was just sitting there. I was on top of the world! well not really but it felt that way.

(I forgot to add that... in the course of rock climbing, I got a handful of bruised on my knees including one on the centre of my forehead. Would you believe that!)

That night we did just a bit of shopping( just enough to satisfy my itch) at the beach town, a town that has only one street. one burger king and a disproportionate number of italian pizzarias.

The last day was spent mainly checking out the facialities at the resort paddling on the canoe on the lake. Lay in the mock beach at the shallow end of the pool and playing monkey with my cousins.

Overall I really enjoyed the trip!! I really like Krabi and might consider going back again. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The bright lights, politics, estranged ties and neck aches. But now I am back. And tomorrow it will be business as usual!
